Depending on the hub, there may be a square headed 3/8"-NC set screw holding the hub in place. That has to be loosened.

L4740. L8 is a very good choice. The older Gravely is a full pressure lubrication and works well on hills. The L8 is a 4 speed tractor with a hi/lo range and a 2 speed axle.
